What are the Eligibility Requirements?

Grants are made to 501(c)(3) public charities in Louisville, Kentucky. Grants are not made to private foundations or to individuals. The Foundation may not designate funds for legislation or support activities that seek to influence the legislative process, except as allowed by the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended.

What is the Application Process?

The Norton Family Foundation utilizes an invitation only process – nonprofits are
contacted directly by the foundation if they are invited to submit a grant request.
Grant decisions will be rooted in the foundation’s mission and shaped by the
personal philanthropic commitments of Board members. Every grant will reflect
the foundation’s values and the lived relationships Board members cultivate in
the community.

Grants will fall into three categories:

Craft Grants: These grants will support projects aligned with the foundation's
values in arts, agriculture, and hands-on education.

Community Form Grants:  These are major gifts that reflect the belief that healthy
communities grow from the integration of art, land, and human development.

Foundation Stone Capital Campaigns: These grants will make significant, long-
term investments in buildings and physical spaces that anchor community life.

What is the Review Process?

Invitations to apply will be extended in the spring of each year and grant
decisions will be made in the Fall.

General inquiries can be made by completing the form on the Contact page of
this website. However, as grant decisions will be largely driven by Board
members, nonprofits are discouraged from approaching the foundation.
